A collision between a KZN EMRS vehicle and a VW Polo Sedan has left one person dead and four others injured. The Sunday afternoon crash on the N2, Empangeni near the Engen garages was allegedly caused by one of the vehicles attempting a u-turn on the freeway.
According to reports, the driver of the VW Polo, travelling northbound, attempted to make a U-turn on the national highway, when he collided with the emergency vehicle which had also been travelling northbound.
The driver of the VW Polo is believed to have died on scene while his 14-year-old grandson, who was in the passenger seat, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Melomed Hospital for further attention.
The KZN EMRS vehicle, which had been transporting a maternity patient, overturned with the driver sustaining minor injuries and the passenger and patient sustaining moderate injuries.
