Taxi Driver Gunned Down By Own Passengers In Verulam

A taxi driver has been shot twice in the head by two passengers at the entrance of the Shoprite Distribution Center in Canelands near Verulam.

According to passengers the suspects just stood up and shot the the driver one after the other when the taxi was slowing down to stop.

“Several passengers fled the scene fearing for their lives,” said one passenger who did not want to be named.

After the taxi came to a standstill, the two suspects were seen fleeing on foot towards a river.

Reaction Unit South Africa officers rushed out to the scene at 11:08 AM after being informed by a passing farmer.

The farmer was driving alongside the white Toyota Quantum and heard the gunshots.

A bullet was recovered inside the vehicle.

Reaction Officers conducted a search for the suspects to no avail.

SAPS Dog Unit was called in however they have not yet commented on the progress.
