Durban – The bloodied body of an unidentified man has been recovered in Oakford near Verulam on Wednesday.
A resident in Oakland, Verulam made a gruesome discovery when they saw the bloodied body of a man floating in a nearby river.
Prem Balram, spokesman for private security company Reaction Unit South Africa, said they received a call from a resident in the area reporting that a body could be seen floating in a river leading to the Hazelmere Dam in the vicinity of Oakford Priory and St Xaviers School.
“The victims hands and legs were bound with a green and white ski-rope and was lying face down in the water. A pair of blue and white sandals were found next to a pool of blood on the river bank. The victim suffered open wounds on his face and head,” he said.
Captain Nqobile Gwala, provincial police spokesperson said they can confirm the incident.
“A case of murder was opened at Verulam police station for investigation after a 30-year-old man was found dead in the river at Oakford area. The deceased sustained gunshot wound to the forehead. The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage,” Gwala said.
