Jaws of Life used to free entrapped bus driver in Umhlanga crash


A bus driver has been left seriously injured after his bus collided with a truck on N2 north near the M41 interchange earlier this morning.

Eight commuters from the bus sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.


The cause of the collision is unknown at this stage and will form subject of a SAPS investigation.

Traffic was severely affected in the area as part of the roadway remained closed, to allow emergency services space to work.

The bus driver, a male, believed to be approximately forty years of age, was entrapped in the badly damaged bus.

Rescue workers worked fervently, using specialized hydraulic equipment, including the ‘Jaws-of-life’ to cut him free.

The injured were stabilized on scene before being taken by various ambulances to nearby medical facilities for further care.
