Wentworth community went into panic mode on Wednesday afternoon after a little boy allegedly delivered a bomb at the local post office.
It is alleged that the little boy dropped off the parcel which was addressed to one of the post office workers who was out of office at the time.
Wentworth SAPS communications officer, Capt Mbuso Gumede said,
“The person was out of the office at the time, and when she got back to open it, she noticed there was a cellphone with wires attached to it. She also noticed a handwritten note containing threats and warning her to take cash out of the till and leave it outside on the veranda of the office within a specified time.”
Police was immediately contacted and they came and cordoned off the scene while waiting for the Durban Harbour Explosive unit.
On arrival the Durban Harbour Explosive unit inspected the parcel and discovered that it was a home made explosive.
A controlled explosion was then safely conducted at the nearby open field.
No injuries or damage to property were reported and police are probing the source of the explosive.
