Pietermaritzburg – A 92 year-old resident at the Kenwyn Old Age Home in Pietermaritz Street, Pietermaritzburg was found dead on Wednesday morning.
The body of the resident, Patricia Aucknell, was discovered by a cleaner.
It is believed that the woman had been strangled to death while a small flat screen TV and two cellphones were taken.
Suspects are believed to have gained access by jumping over the small security gate wall and window.
Trevor Clouwes, the CEO of PADCA, confirmed that a resident at the Kenwyn Home had been found dead.
“One of our residents was found dead and her next of kin was informed. At this stage the police are still investigating,” he said.
Police spokesperson sergeant Mthokozisi Ngobese said that it was possible that the incident occurred on Tuesday night as the body was discovered on Wednesday morning.
“The body was discovered on Wednesday morning, we are investigating one case of murder and one case of house robbery. No arrests have been made. The suspect is still at large,” said Ngobese.
