Five people has been killed, another four have been injured after two vehicles collided on the N3 northbound near Shongweni.
Just after 17h00 this evening Rescue Care Paramedics were called to a serious collision on the N3 near Shongweni.
On arrival they found absolute carnage, multiple patients scattered on the roadway and some people entrapped in the wreckage.
Two cars had collided in a supposed T-bone format. Paramedics found five people, three males and two females, with no signs of life unfortunately and were declared dead on scene due to their extensive injuries.
Four other people were entrapped in the wreckage and the Jaws of Life were used to free the injured.
Advanced Life Support paramedics were called to the scene to assist with the injured and stabilise the entrapped patients until they were freed.
Once the injured were freed from the wreckage, they were transported to hospital for the further definitive care they required.
SAPS and all necessary authorities were in attendance and will be investigating the cause of the accident.
